Well, apparently November 5th is Hug-A-Chicken Day. Do we really need a day for that? I hug my chickens every day. My ladies bring to so much to my life. They provide me with humor, relaxation, inspiration and food every day, so I hug them every day.
I told myself I'd do a painting for Hug-A-Chicken Day and take shots of it's progress to share with the rest of my chicken loving friends. When I saw this photo of an internet friend's daughter, I wanted to paint it. With her permission, of course, I started the painting.

I was super jazzed when I started, and now, not so much. I didn't end up capturing the emotions I wanted to, I overworked the face and I'm not really happy with it. I'm now wishing I'd done it in oils. Sigh.

So why am I sharing it if I'm not happy with it? I don't know, because it's good for people to know that not all paintings turn out great. I'm constantly learning as an artist and every time I do something I think is good, then I do something like this and it reminds me that I have a lot to learn. If this was for a commission I'd start over again and do it until I got it right. Some day I might return to this image and try to do it justice, but for now I'm kind of over it.

But hey, hug a chicken today! If you don't have one of your own, come on over and hug one of mine.
